This week, we are celebrating Magic Ribbon week with lots of great ideas from our PTA. Today we teamed up against drugs by showing our team spirit. Tuesday, we will wear bright colors and sunglasses to show how we are good friends. Wednesday is Crazy From Head to Toe to reach goals (crazy hair, socks and shirts day). Thursday is hat day, to show we are looking for ways to include everyone, and finally, Friday is PJ day to show that making good choices is Key to Making Dreams Come True. We are thankful to all the PTA members who have put together this great week for us!
We are trying something new for our Caesar’s English vocabulary homework. I have made up a worksheet with several different assignments which was passed out today, and will be due Friday. I encouraged the students to work on one part a night so that they are working with their words every day, to really reinforce their meanings. They will also have their cumulative review quiz on Friday, and will bring home their last test, as well as a review sheet, tomorrow to use to study.
Wednesday will be our Electricity test. We will do some review tomorrow, and the review page will come home for them study. We are working on equivalent fractions for the next few days, and then will learn how to move back and forth from fractions to decimals. We will have our second history debate on Friday. In reading, we have started reading the novel Sophia’s War by Avi, which is a historical fiction book set in New York City during the American Revolution. We are also working on identifying main idea and supporting details in nonfiction, and we will use this knowledge to write Reader’s Theater scripts based on informational texts that we read. We have also been noticing how much our Wonders texts follow the structure we are using to write our own informational essays. Many students were surprised to learn that they were writing in the same way that “real authors” write. I assured them that is because they ARE Real Authors!
We will taking our field trip to the State Capitol on Jan. 31. If you would like to help us as a chaperone, we would love to have you! I will be contacting those of you who volunteered to come to confirm you are fingerprinted and still available, but if you do not hear from me in the next few days and would like to come, please let me know! We like to have lots of parents for this trip.
Finally, (sorry this email is so long!), our school STEM fair is coming up on Jan. 25. Students need to have their projects completed and their display board completed by that day. Parents will be invited to come to see the projects, and I will let you know for sure what time in my email next week. I am excited by the variety of projects the students have selected! It will be a fun day.
Thanks again for being such wonderful parents to such wonderful children! Have a great week!
