We are working on multiplication of large number is math, and will be taking our multiplication test next Thursday. We are learning about the original 13 colonies in history, and about the changes of the Earth’s surface in science. Our writing is connected with history, and we are writing about why so many people died in the early Jamestown colony. In reading, we are working on main idea and supporting details, while reading descriptive texts that tell us more about our science topics.
We have a field trip to the Leonardo next Wednesday, and it will be a COMMON DAY! I apologize that the information was not included on the permission slip sent home last week. The bus will leave right at 9:!5, so we need all students to come A track time in order to leave on time. We are excited to learn about electricity while at the museum. I will contact the parents who volunteered to come with us to check your availability.
The first term ends on Nov. 16, which means that any and all late/missing work will need to be turned in one week prior to that, by Nov. 9. That gives me time to grade it and get it recorded before I am required to turn in grades. I will have Skyward updated by this Thursday. We will also have our first fifth grade store on the afternoon of Nov. 16. Students will work with a partner to create a store where they will sell items to other fifth graders for class money. These items should not be big, expensive things that parents or students spend a lot of real money on, but instead small things that they make, or games they can bring to have others play (like basketball hoops, or mini soccer goals, etc.). The students will get more information in class. Food will not be eaten during the store, so it needs to be wrapped or packaged for later consumption, and must be store bought just like birthday treats would be.
Thanks so much, and have a wonderful, safe Halloween night!
