Next Friday, Nov. 17, is the last day of the first trimester. If your student has any missing assignments listed in Skyward, they need to be turned in by this Friday so that I have time to grade and record them. Thanks!
We will be having our first Fifth Grade Store next Friday (Nov. 17). Here is some information about that:
The student will be able to spend their classroom money at the stores (one in November, and one in March). They will work with partners and will buy a business license for $20 (classroom money) per student. They should prepare a poster sign explaining their product(s) and the prices. Some examples of items to sell are: homemade craft items, toys, candy, holiday decorations/crafts, books students no longer want, etc. Any food item needs to be store-bought and individually wrapped, following the district policy not allowing homemade food items. The students will need to prepare for their store on their own time. In order to buy goods, students must have items of their own to sell. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Our November poems will be recited the week after Thanksgiving break. I will post the schedule tomorrow on our class website, along with the title of the poem each child is doing. I will also post the poems in case someone loses their copy.
We will be finishing up our study of Earth’s Surface in science to take a test early next week. We are working on multiplication of large whole numbers, and will begin multiplying decimals by decimals on Thursday. We are learning about the Hero’s Journey in reading, as well as focusing on theme and folktales this week.
The class was split into colonies today to begin our work with the original 13 American colonies. For the next few weeks, they will work with these colonies to learn about these original settlements, and build a community among themselves. They will be earning points as a colony for working together and for showing the knowledge that they are learning. It will be a fun way to extend and apply our learning about history to our own classroom.
Thanks so much for your continued support, and have a wonderful week!
