I hope you had a relaxing Labor Day weekend! The weather was so hot, it is hard to think of it as the end of summer.
This week in library, the students will be allowed to start checking out books. The whole class will be participating in Battle of the Books this year, so I will be encouraging them to begin reading those. I will put up a list of those books on our class website under Language Arts resources, but they were also given a copy of that list at Back to School night.
Our class has been experimenting with choosing their own seats in the classroom the past week. For the most part, they have made very wise and responsible choices. Several students have chosen seats near friends that distract them and keep them from paying attention to their work, and I have had to move them to more appropriate seating. This week, I will be adding in exercise balls as choices for seating. Some students have asked if they can bring in their own balls, and after we lay down the ground rules for appropriate use of the balls as seats, they are welcome to bring in their own to use. I have several that I will have in the classroom, so it is by no means necessary to provide your own. However, some students like to sit on them so much, they want to have one that they do not have to share.
We are continuing to work on our personal narratives, prime numbers, heredity and explorers. We do not have spelling this week, as it is a short week. We will have our first end of unit math test next week.
Have a wonderful week!
