The end of the first term in this Friday. I will be finalizing grades over the weekend, and grade cards will be sent home soon after. Please remember that with the new grading system, a 3 shows grade level mastery of the concepts, and a 2 means that they are approaching mastery but still need more work on that concept. We are continuing to work on the standards on the grade card all year, and it is a marathon, not a sprint.
We are studying poetry in reading this week, as well as finishing up A Wrinkle in Time. We will be taking a mid-unit test in Math on Thursday over multiplication, including multiplying with decimals. In history, we will be finishing our essay explaining why so many people died in Jamestown’s early years, and learning about the founding of the first thirteen colonies. We will have a science test this Thursday over Changes to Earth’s Surface.
Friday afternoon will be our first fifth grade store. The students have been earning money through completing their homework, getting their planners signed, and exceeding behavioral expectations in class. They are working hard in their colonies to earn points and money, as well.
The poetry schedule for this month is on the class website, along with a link to the poems if anyone loses theirs. This week’s vocabulary words and assignments are also posted.
